Planning Your Landscape
Planning your landscaping
Landscaping any area outside of your home, no matter the size, requires some degree of planning. If you fail to plan properly for your landscaping ideas, you may end up with a garden you don’t like or a garden you cannot finish as you have run out of money. So, to figure out your budget and your overall desires, you need to create a proper plan.
Read on to find the best tips to planning your landscape, so you can get exactly what you want for the budget you have.
What do you already have?
Before you do anything with your garden or yard you need to look at what you already have. Do you have anything in your garden or yard that you would like to keep, what do you like or dislike about what is there?
It is useful to keep a diary and follow through the seasons. Look each season to see how your garden or yard looks; this may sound silly, but in reality your garden will look totally different in the summer to the winter and the same goes for your yard. Make notes on what you like and dislike about your outside areas during each season. You will be able to see a plan formulating before your eyes!
Less space or more space?
Another point you have to think about when landscaping is this: what do you use the space for? Do you have dogs or children (or both)? If you do, you may want to keep the majority of the open space to allow them plenty of room to play. This may also factor in to what types of plants and shrubbery you have in your garden.
Your design for the area shouldn’t make life difficult; it should in fact make it much easier. So, don’t stick a massive water fountain in the way of the path or a tree that blocks off the view from the house. Don’t just concentrate on the negative, look at what positivity you could bring to the landscape design. Would the addition of a gorgeous decking area make sitting out in the sun nicer and more convenient? You could sit out on the deck in the corner while the children play on the grass below.
Your finished plans should make life better by combining both beauty and practicality. This can all be achieved with a good landscaping design and a flawless plan.
Check regulations
Never start any landscaping, especially on a large scale, without checking any permits or building regulations first. Check with your house deeds where your boundaries start and finish. This will help in avoiding neighbour conflicts! Always check if you need permission to build or take something away from your original landscaping.
Keep a scrapbook
Look for inspiration in magazines, on television programmes, in newspaper and in neighbours and other peoples’ garden and yards. You may see something you like and adapt that idea to suit your own outdoor area!
If you plan properly and take your time instead of rushing, there is no reason why your garden wouldn’t look out of place in the magazines you took your inspiration from.
